Open Question: If you get laid off from your job, how long more are your health benefits supposed to last?
I just got laid off from my job at UPS and the rule with the company is you have to work 60 hours the previous month to qualify for health/dental insurance. I did a great job there and there is a chance they could hire me back in a week or two, but in the meantime, are my medical benefits still valid for another month since I worked 60 hours last month? Or do they cease immediately because I've been "laid off?"

Open Question: Moving toothache on left side?
I'm 18, had my wisdom teeth out last April, and currently wearing invisilign. For some reason the other day, I had a very sharp pain in my back bottom left tooth. It hasn't hurt as badly since Sunday (today is Tuesday). But there still is a tiny constant pain. It also moves from the bottom left of my mouth, to the top left. Both pains are in the very back. I also can't pinpoint which tooth the pain is coming from. I also can't find any cavities, using dental tools like the tiny mirror and probes. But then again, I'm not an expert. What can be the root of this guys? Is there any chance it's just teeth moving from my invisilign? I brush my teeth 3 times a day and yet I still receive damn cavities.

Open Question: strange taste in mouth and white(ish) spot on my gum?
not much more detail to add: I've been noticing a odd bitter/sweet taste in my mouth that i felt was coming from where my wisdom tooth used to be, on the bottom left, in my mouth. I finally asked my wife to look back there and look if she could look anything - and she said that there is a white/gray ish bump on my gum. I can't look it because it is pretty far back. I had my wisdom teeth removed almost 8 months ago - so the gum is healed now. I don't have any pain, just a odd taste that comes and goes in intensity... I guess it could be some sort of sore or infection and if that's the case - should I take some sort of anti-biotic? I live in rural China, so please don't say "go to the dentist" because the "dentist" in where I live is a guy in a dirty lab coat with a table on the side of the road and some pliers. I can easily receive antibiotics or any medicine at the drug store. If i don't need antibiotics, what should I do? Any help/suggestions would be great - especially from any dentists or dental hygienists. Thanks so much!

Open Question: Has anyone ever heard of traffic fines being reduced due to inability to pay?
my boyfriend is having a problem. He tried to go receive his license, and the DMV told him that he had unpaid traffic tickets. (mind you my boyfriend just got his hours clip at work and he only makes $8 an hour) We went to the court to find out how much he owes, and it is close to $1000! Not too mention, they want to charge almost $500 in "reinstatement" fees, even though he never had his license in the first place. He obviously cannot afford to pay this bill-which means no license. It would probably take years to pay that bill off since he got his hours severly clip, and has other financial obligations(dental bills). He wants to go back to school and receive a GED so he can go to college and make something of himself, but he cant do this without his license. Does anyone know if it is possible to receive really heavy traffic fines reduced due to an inability to pay?? because at this rate, he will not be going back to school anytime soon =[ Any advice is greatly appreciated!! age of reason-yess unfortunately, 16 year old boys make mistakes. how can you say he should never have a license? thats rediculous-he never killed anyone, and he pays his taxes just like everyone else, so he should deserve to steer like anyone else.

Open Question: Is a dental exam required when you go for a cleaning?
My dentist (in NJ) is telling me I can't just go in for a cleaning, that I have to have an exam as well. The cleaning is $85 and the exam is over $50. I had an exam recently and regardless, I don't want the exam. I just want my teeth cleaned. Is there some law or something that tells dental offices they must do an exam with a cleaning? Or is this just a way to receive more money out of me? OK well the exam I had was at this same office and it was only 7 months ago. How can I find out if it's a law in NJ? And has anyone in the US heard of such a law?

Open Question: Can anyone give me job advice instead of ads?
Ok, I want a job and need one really bad to help my parents out and myself. I am a freshman college student taking 17 hours who just turned 18 and I want to be a dentist one day. I need a job really bad, but everyone tells me don't do retail or quick food because you'll receive no experience and waste your time. I really want to be experiencing the field I am interested in but I feel like dental offices are too tiny and won't offer me anything. I really want a part-time job in the dental office as anything to gain experience and money. 2-1 sounds nice but I don't know if i am being realistic. Do I go up to any dental office or is that too desperate? So what should I do? Please answer... thank you very much.

Open Question: Is it bad that my left front adult tooth is a tiny bit wiggly?
Eh, I'm 16 years old, and I do brush my teeth, but not as well as I should..That's why I got an electric toothbrush, which i've be brushing with ever since..I have to go to the dentist soon to have some cavities filled in, but..That's it, really. And I don't really eat anything but dinner. No candy, no sugar, no fattening food, nothing..It's not wiggly as in, like..I can poke it with my tongue, and it sticks out..When I say wiggly, I mean..It moves if I touch it with my tongue..It uhh..Lemme try to find the word..Ah! It stirs..Thats right..It stirs a little bit.. I'm just wondering if this is a problem, cuz I have had trouble brushing that part of my mouth with the electric tooth brush. I've had dental problems and.. I'm just making sure my teeth aren't so messed up that they could fall out anytime o.O" Yeess..I had gingivitis once..And fatigue..Depression can do a number on ya. But I'm certain that I've gotten rid of the gingivitis, seeing as how the swellings gone down.. And when I was younger, I was grinding my teeth in my snooze, and now..My teeth are very tiny, but..They're adult teeth, mostly. Or, at least I wish.. Anyways, that's every on my dental history..I just want to make sure I'm alright, and that I won't have to uhh..Wear dentures or something at age 17 >.> Remember, it's not wiggly..It just stirs..I'm sorry for the confusion. I'm trying to improve my english with an online thesaurus. I was on that website when I couldn't taste anything..every it has is coughing..arrive to think of it, the websites not even finished. ITS JUST A FRONT PAGE AND NOTHING ELSE. arrive ON!!!!!

Open Question: How many grams of tin(II) fluoride can be made from 62.5 g of hydrofluoric acid if there is plenty of tin?
Tin (II) fluoride is added to some dental products to help prevent tooth decay. Manufacturers have to make the tin (II) fluoride first by reacting tin metal with hydrofluoric acid producing both tin (II) fluoride and hydrogen gas. How many grams of tin(II) fluoride can be made from 62.5 g of hydrofluoric acid if there is plenty of tin available to react?

Open Question: What do I do about my teeth?
Hey, I've never been to the dentist. My teeth are getting yellow rusty from the bottom, I eat very healthy, brush 2 times a day and use mouth wash as well. If I apply force while I brush my teeth my gums bleed. It would be really helpful if someone can guide me through the process of meeting a dentist in ontario Canada. I know I'm not covered, i have no idea of dental fees, I'm assuming it's expensive. What are my options? I need to look a dentist asap. I prefer if you tell me how to meet a dentist rather than what I should do about my teeth. Any advice is good. Thanks

Open Question: What is the BEST over the counter teeth whitening product out right now?
Well, I quit smoking about 7 or 8 months ago, and now that I know I am done for good! (its literally been that long since ive had a cig) I want to whiten my teeth. I don't really want to do the whole dental laser whitening (mostly bc im not looking to spend hundreds on it, since I just had a baby) but in the mean time, what is the best OTC whitening product! When you tell me which one is the best, please also answer these questions if you will: Have you yourself used it? if so, how long did it take before you noticed a difference? how many shades do you think it lightened? how long did total time take (days, weeks, etc) Any and every help is greatly appreciated and i will be picking a best answer! :) Thanks In Advance! :)

A loaf of bread and a pound of rice 6. Income tax and sales tax, expressed in percentage of income if applicable. Open Question: My tooth filling cracked, who's responsible to fix it?
A couple of years ago I had a cavity. My dentist filled the tooth with a white filling instead of a silver filling. I noticed a month ago that there was a hole in my tooth and it was the tooth with the white filling. I've been in to look my dentist and he put a temporary patch until he would have time to actually fix the tooth. None of my other fillings have had any problems. Am I responsible to pay for this? I don't have dental insurance...

Open Question: Should I go to my dentist appointments or wait?
I didn't go to the dentist for 4 years and just recently got dental insurance so I've been going. I have quite a few cavities and to fill them every, it will cost $654. I have $2000 in my savings and will probably use that money if I receive them done. But just recently my husband got orders (from NC to CA) and I found out we'll be moving in one month. I'm worried about unexpected expenses for the move, so I'm thinking about postponing the treatment. Should I wait until after I'm settled in California to receive them filled? Should I just receive them every filled now? Or just half the cavities filled now?

Open Question: Why is health-care so expensive?
Just last year in CA Medi-Cal (state medicaid) cease covering for dentistry and optometry for people over 21. The total cost of my dental braces is $4550. I need them so I can fix some teeth that are misaligned. I pay $100 and it seems like its a never ending balance. I been doing this for 2 years now. I have Medi-Cal because of my SSI but that doesnt cover anymore because I am 21. My mom had heart surgery in 2007 and we still haven't payed a bill. My parents don't have any insurance. They used to have Medi-Cal but when Schwarzenegger became the governor in 2003 he made some changes to the policies and they cease having Medi-Cal. She tried applying for SSI but she keeps getting denied. The republicans should cease attacking Obama and work together to pass the health-care reform.

Open Question: which is worse, eating between the time you brush your teeth and bed, or not brushing and just rinsing?
Both choices are not ideal but I'm curious what a dental specialist would think about this. Which would be more detrimental to your oral hygiene? 1. You brush your teeth at night but then receive a tardy night snack before going to bed or 2. Instead of brushing, you only rinse your mouth with mouthwash and you dont eat or drink anything afterward?

Open Question: Dental issue with new filling?
Ok I'll start with a bit of background. When I was much younger I got a silver filling in my upper right molar which was beginning to decay (i'm guessing its an amalgam filling). After that I had no problems at every. No pain, nothing. But a few weeks ago when I was eating an apple I noticed silver flecks on my tongue and then my filling fell out as I looked at it in the mirror. I kinda freaked out so I made an appointment with my dentist (not the dentist from before) and tried not to eat on that side of my mouth. He said that my tooth had been allowed to decay below the old filling and put a temporary filling in it to seal it up until the next appointment. I went to the dentist last week and got the tooth properly filled and ever since then I have been in really horrible pain. The tooth itself is only sensitive to air and fiddling with it. Everything else (eating, brushing, icy/hot foods) doesn't seem to have much of an effect. It causes me to have severe headaches and internal tooth pain. Are my nerves inflammed or what? Today pain-killers didn't seem to have as good an effect as before. I'm just wondering is the pain normal? I've had LOADS of fillings and I've never had pain before luckily. What should I do? I'm going to look the dentist again this evening and ask for some advice but until then I'd like to hear some other peoples ideas. Thanks a bunch for any help.

Open Question: I don't understand why my last dentist left decay in a root canaled tooth?
I went to a dentist and he did three root canals. I figured for financial sake to go to a dental school for the relax of the work done. The dental school told me that there is a lot of decay left and they aren't sure if it would be viable to keep the tooth if the decay goes below the gum line. I don't understand why the first dentist left the decay or didn't tell me? It's obvious it was there so I doubt he didn't look it. I think he was going to do the post and crown on it with the decay. Why? Is that harmful? Now I'm worried! The girl at the dental school told me it would be better to receive an implant if the decay went below the gum line instead of a crown lenghtening. Why? I don't understand!! Why can't I receive a CL if the decay goes below the gum lijne...if there is enough tooth structure shouldn't that work? She said they don't really believe in CL because it takes away bone. I'm confused.

Open Question: IV Sedation Question?
I recently had a dental procedure below IV sedation using Versed. The procedure was supposed to be done below conscious sedation meaning I would be awake but it would feel like I was asleep. I felt like I was knocked out icy. After the procedure I asked the nurse if I was awake and just did not remember the procedure? She said no that I was "out" and was asleep for almost the entire procedure. Is this normal? From reading online I find conflicting info - some that says versed produces amnesia but you are actually awake but relaxed and others info that says it puts you out but does not take you that deep. Which is right or are both right? The nurse told me after that I was out and actually asleep for the procedure - is that normal with Versed?

Open Question: Which job do you think is more noble...?
A doctor or a soldier? Personally I think it's a doctor. ---I understand the whole "defending your country" argument, but really, not every soldiers do. And even the ones that do only serve so many tours. A doctor fights to keep lives day in and day out until they retire. ---Soldiers have to give their lives away for 4 or 6 years. Maybe more. But doctors spend that much time in med school. And they have to pay to be there. Soldiers receive benefits (medical, dental, housing, food... they basically pay for everything), and doctors don't even start making what we think of as "a doctors salary" until at least 10-12 years after high school. So what are your opinions on the matter? Who is doing the more noble job, a doctor or a soldier?

Open Question: What should I do now?
I might receive into UBC Vancouver. I always wanted to do dentistry and I applied for undergrad. science to both the campuses(Vancouver and Okanagan) hoping to receive into either one. I got into UBC Okanagan and I have a pretty good chance of getting into Vancouver campus. The thing is that I just found out that they also offer an undergrad. degree in dental hygeine(Bachelors of Dental Science-BDS). My parents want me to do an undergrad degree or BDS and then go to US for a masters degree. Thay don't want me to do a BSc and then go to dental school in US for Bachelors and then a specialization. This is one reason why they want me to apply to Australia(2011). How do I change this now? I really want to go to the Vancouver campus and do Dental Hygeine and not Science. Normally Dental School is for grad. school. The degree is not offered for undergraduates. That is why I chose Lifesciences in undergrad. so that I can go to dental school in the states or in Canada itself.

Open Question: Bleeding gums and "pregnancy gingivitis"?
I was curious if anyone has experienced pregnancy gingivitis. I have always been very conscious of my dental hygiene, and although I haven't always been the best flosser, I've been consistent with flossing for at least the past six months. Well, I'm now about 9 weeks pregnant, went to floss my teeth tonight, and was surprised when an area of my upper gums just started pouring blood. It wouldn't cease for a few minutes! I know this can be normal if you've just started flossing, and I've had some light bleeding before, but never like this--and like I said, I've been flossing consistently for a while. Now I'm worried about pregnancy gingivitis. Has anyone had this? Does it sound like I have it? I just don't look how I could because I do everything I'm supposed to in taking care of my teeth. Pregnancy is a odd thing. Thanks! :)
